Established in 1910, the Community Music Center of Boston (CMCB) is a nonprofit organization focused on arts education. Its core mission involves making a positive impact on individuals’ lives by ensuring equal and fair access to top-notch music education and artistic encounters. A diverse student body exceeding 3,000, spanning all age groups from preschoolers to seniors, actively engages in CMCB’s weekly programs.
The CMCB holds the distinction of being the principal external supplier of arts education to the Boston Public Schools. In this role, it furnishes comprehensive and culturally inclusive music instruction to one of the most varied school districts in the country, supporting the district’s commitment to rigorous and pertinent musical education.
With an extensive presence spanning virtually every corner of Boston, the CMCB operates its programs within schools, after-school settings, and during the summer period. The organization is divided into two primary sections: the Community Music School Programs, which operate from its headquarters in Boston’s South End, and the Community Engagement Programs, which collaborate with more than 30 partners across various neighborhoods in Boston.
